ACCESSIBILITY
When speaking about disability and the rights of persons with disabilities we mostly think of accessibility, i.e. physical, psychological, communication and similar barriers which exist in our environment and which hinder persons with disabilities to take full part in the life of their communities.
The inexistence of accessible environments leads to their exclusion from society, which is unacceptable. In addition to persons with disabilities, other categories of population, such as small children, parents with small children, elderly persons, pregnant women, persons of increased body mass or those with temporary impairments, face mobility difficulties in their daily activities.
It is erroneously believed that the aforementioned groups are themselves the cause of the problem, due to their limited physical capacities and specific requirements in mobility, or in receiving or providing information and services. Thus, the society avoids taking responsibility for creating environments accessible to all.
