{"id":4525,"date":"2022-12-03T11:49:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-03T10:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.czuns.org\/?p=4525"},"modified":"2025-08-24T13:41:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T11:41:01","slug":"povodom-3-decembra-medjunarodnog-dana-osoba-sa-invaliditetom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.czuns.org\/en\/povodom-3-decembra-medjunarodnog-dana-osoba-sa-invaliditetom\/","title":{"rendered":"ON THE OCASION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today is 30 years since the United Nations declared December, 3rd as an International Day of Persons with Disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is celebrated in order to understand what disability implies and to support the rights, dignity and well-being of persons with impairments, reduced and\/or absence of some abilities, who, due to the disabling society, expressed in attitudes and real barriers, cannot exercise their rights and full social participation on an equal basis with others, which results in the objectification, isolation and marginalization of one billion inhabitants of the world, who consequently face disability in all aspects of their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The solution is in full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the legacy of the international movement of disabled persons and other (parts of) the human rights movement(s).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On this day, 40 years ago, the United Nations, with the full participation of the International Organization for Persons with Disabilities, adopted the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons for 1983-1992. The date of adoption of this document, as the beginning of international action on the improvement of the position of persons with impairments or reduced abilities, was declared the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities defines disability as a human rights and a political issue, further work on improving the position of one-eighth of the world&#8217;s population would have to be based on preventing general disablement of unhindered living and social participation, as well as preventing the general disabling of unhindered living without barriers and the exercise of rights and obligations on any basis, bearing in mind the natural hardships that we have caused by endangering each other, endangering other living species and the environment, as an unpredictable cause of hunger, disease and new conditions, which makes mutual support and change of behavior towards everything we use a prerequisite for human survival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We could start making a difference by dealing with the fact that people prevent each other from functioning without difficulties and disable each other (which is an increasingly general phenomenon), and that is a reason why countries cannot fully develop since part of the human experience, often more than half of the population, due to the denial of basic rights, is neglected.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is 30 years since the United Nations declared December, 3rd as an International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
